NZ Oddities

I feel like I haven't recorded / shared with you some of the strange and different things here in New Zealand so while I think of it, here it goes. Basically, New Zealanders are pretty casual about some things - as in they don't take certain things as seriously as we do in Canada. There was an Earthquake here last night, but before you get all freaked out it was in the South Island out in the sea so nobody got hurt. But, the point is that people here don't even do Earthquake drills! Is that NUTS or what? They don't have Earthquake kits or plans for safety if an earthquake occurs...it is so dumb! HELLO? New Zealand is in an Earthquake zone and the fault line runs all through the country!!! It is shocking! At least I know what to do if and when an earthquake happens.

Another thing, riding the buses here is not at all like bussing in Vancouver or the lower mainland for that matter. They are never full and they are really clean and taken care of well (they should be because it costs an arm and a leg to take them) and you don't get any crazies on them that yell out at other people and all. To be honest I miss taking the buses in Vancouver and seeing so many different kinds of people on it. I mean come on - there is always someone interesting to look at on them right?

Oh yeah, you know how McDonald's is like everywhere in Canada and the STATES? Well, here it is Burger King. I know, weird eh? Burger King is huge here and there are way more of them around here than McDonald's. I don't even know where the nearest Burger King in Vancouver is and the one in Nanaimo seems so ancient.

Sometimes people here are so lazy with language. For example I saw on a sign today "Samoa for lowa". It was an ad for an airline. They also have "SUPA" centres here (Super Centres - Canadian translation) and they spell tires like this "tyres". It's weird I tell you. Weird.

Ok well this is all I have to say now.
