I went to get my x-ray today. The place was in Oakridge Plaza which, apparantly is right where CIBC is at 41st and Cambie. So I went and got checked in etc. and had to wait for them to call my name and then when they called it, the guy instructed me to take everything off from the waist up and put on this shirt and "leave the front open". Considering that any Tom, Dick and Harry (or Susie, Mary and Joan) could walk in and out from the change room to the x-ray room (something that i quickly observed) I was doubtful about the "leaving the shirt open at the front" instruction so I checked with him.
"Leave it open at the front?" I clarified.
"Yes," the man replied.
Still, I was doubtful but I followed the instructions. I thought that maybe there was a mistake and the guy who showed me to the room thought that I was getting a mammogram instead. "I'll straighten them out when I get in there" I thought. So I changed and pulled the open part of the shirt across me so that I could at least cover myself while I walked from the room to the x-ray place. There were two x-ray technicians - one was an old man that looked like Santa Claus and the other was bald. They were really nice. I checked with the bald man about the shirt putting on part and he stuttered a bit and then said that usually they tell the men to put it on that way with the front open but it didn't matter.
Well, by this time it was too late to go back and change so I just had to deal with it. I was basically exposed during the whole x-ray, which was not too cool, but I tried not to think about it too much. "Santa Claus" was a really nice man. When he told me to drink the barium he said that there was no use trying to tell me that it tastes good because it doesn't so I should just take in one gulp. He was right - disgusting! During the x-ray he told me to think of something good that I wanted to eat. After the x-ray he told me that my stomach looked good and that I should go home now and get something to eat. He was nice and I appreciated his friendliness. I was a little tickked about the guy who told me to leave the shirt open though! Hello? Do I look like a man? He probably was so busy that he didn't even think about what he was saying. Oh, now I know if there is a next time.
This morning the kids made their peace candles. They look good. I was trying to give a geometry lesson to the Year 3s and 4s and Anthony but they had already started a bit and then they had to wait for the Year 3s to get caught up and then they were being really loud so I gave up and had them go and write their peace paragraphs and then just focused on the Year 3s. This was a learning experience for me, smaller groups are better.
Even though I only have 9 kids I find it hard to juggle everyone's own curriculum. They are all at different places in math and geometry and it is so hard to find the time to get to everyone and give them the individual lessons that they need, as well as do it properly. It is frustrating for me at times. I hope that it will all work out for my practicum requirements.
I made some flour tortillas today and they turned out well.
